About Benadryl Mosquito Bites in Questions
Lots of mosquito bites.... too much Benadryl cream? I have about 25 extremely itchy mosquito bites and I have been slathering Benadryl cream on them like there is no tomorrow. Today I went through about 1/3 to 1/2 of a 1oz tube. I just noticed that on the tube it says not to apply more than 3-4 times daily and do not use it on large areas. Did I use way too much today, and can I OD on this stuff? I want to use some more before I go to bed, because then maybe I can get a solid 2 hours of sleep.

I'm covered in mosquito bites and I'm not sure of the best ways to get relief? I've tried after-bite, Benadryl Itch-stick, and various other things and i can't seem to get relief! Any ideas?

me replied: "Hydro cortisone, alcohol...it doesnt burn, burts bees has a special stick you put on them."

deb s replied: "Baking soda dissolved in a warm bath can help with the itching; calomine lotion can work too. I take my fingernail and make an X on the bite, and that works for me."

Any ideas how to help my mosquito bites stop itching? I've tried everything! I am literally right now covered in mosquito bites, mostly on my arms/hands and legs. I tried benadryl spray, taking benadryl, and something else I don't know the name of and all I feel now is sleepy from the benadryl. Anyone have any other suggestions? I heard ice might work??? help!

thejoker8301 replied: "use AfterBite....it may sting a bit...but the itching will subside rather quickly"

Jillian C replied: "I always put an "x" on my mosquito bites..like with your fingernail you know? It makes it stop itching. Make sure you make the x really deep. Also, try to distract yourself!"

Jeffery C replied: "The "x" imprint is actually a very good method :)"

the_only_solorose replied: "rub a slice of raw onion on the bite, it smells like onion for a while, but it will take the itch away."

Mary Boo replied: "Steps: 1. Wash the infected area with soap and water as soon as you recognize that you've been bitten. Try to keep the site clean and dry until the irritation abates. 2. Avoid scratching. Although a mosquito bite should itch for only a few days, continual scratching will increase your discomfort and may prolong the itching. 3. Make a paste of baking soda and water, using just enough water to make the paste sticky. Spread the mixture on the bites. 4. Rub soap directly on the bite. This is an oft-repeated home remedy for mosquito bites. 5. Apply an ice pack or ice wrapped in a washcloth to the bite area. 6. Use calamine lotion or a topical anesthetic containing pramoxine to help relieve pain and itching. 7. Purchase 1-percent hydrocortisone cream to alleviate the itching. Follow directions on the package for safe use. 8. Use an anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen or naproxen to reduce any accompanying swelling or redness. "

simply confused replied: "distilled white vinegar, rub it on it there ant bites use a damp cloth and salt..it won't sting"

rudenski replied: "Apple Cider Vinegar really soothes the bites or even regular diluted vinegar helps. If you can get some catnip, make it into a tea and add it to your bath then it will repel mosquitoes better than DEET."

Steph replied: "You're doing the right thing. To keep them away from her though check with your pharmacist and see if there's any kind of spray like OFF spray or cream that's safe for an 11 month old. I'm not entirely sure how safe they are for babies."

Walking on Sunshine replied: "A warm bath with baking soda in the water will do wonders - so will MSG on the bites a lot safer and quicker real relief."

crowfeathers replied: "All that for a mosquito bite!? Get a mosquito net for over her bed. Here is a link for all kinds of mosquito nets most are for over the bed. MORE on Babies and mosquito bites: The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) advises that products used on infants and children should contain no more than ten percent DEET, because it is absorbed through the skin and is potentially harmful. Look for a repellant that is made for children, and then read the active ingredients label carefully. Lightly spray an appropriate insect repellant on your baby’s clothing and/or apply it to your hands and sparingly rub it on her exposed skin. Tightly woven, long-sleeved tops and pants offer some barrier protection. Light colors refract heat and may make you less attractive to mosquitoes; dark colors capture heat and thus attract mosquitoes. Some experts suspect that bright colors and flowery prints also attract mosquitoes. While garlic has been touted as a repellant and bananas as an attractant, both currently fall into the realm of folklore. Dusk to dawn is the peak time for mosquito attacks, with dusk being the most important time to avoid exposure. Cover outdoor play yards and carriages with mosquito netting in infested areas. Bites can be treated with calamine lotion (or Caladryl) except around eyes and genitals. Contact a physician before using antihistamines or home remedies. Mosquito bites may appear more red and swollen on the second or third day. If bites look infected or itching is severe, consult your baby’s healthcare provider.,,lz_bmx8,00.html"

Mosquito bites swelling then going down then swelling again? I was in my yard messing around and I got a ton of mosquito bites. All of them swelled up, but someone of them didn't go down. Like, I have one on my leg that swelled up pretty big, then it went down, then the next morning it was huge again. I've tried hydrocotisone cream, icing it, caladryl (sp?), and benadryl- none of them have helped. They itch pretty bad and look awful x_x any suggestions on what to do?

wackowoman replied: "Make a baking soda & water paste and apply to each bite--re-apply as needed. This "draws out" the poison that itches. In the future during mosquito season, take a timed release vitamin B-complex. I learned this in biting bug infested Arkansas 1/2 a lifetime ago, haven't had a bug bite since (they don't like the smell of B vits any more than we do."

How can i get rid of redness from mosquito bites? I know it's an allergic reaction and I've been popping benadryl like crazy - but i have a TON of bites all over my arms and legs and i'd really like to know if i can get rid of the redness quickly. They don't itch anymore - they're just a little red and raised. Gross.

Mango_lover replied: "water"

☼Head Brainiac☼ replied: "hydrocortisone"

Christina J replied: "I would say rub some ice over your arms...that may help with the redness and reduce some of the swelling, but mosquito bites usually go away as they please."

BobbyeMc replied: "Cortisone cream and aspirin (take with food) which is an antiflammatory."

nickipettis replied: "I am allergic to many mosquitoes, too. Applying cold water or ice seems to help the swelling and the redness, but i haven't found anything to make it just go away. Benedryl is the best med i have found for it."

La Chewy replied: "Try using Benadril cream, and take a low dose aspirin or Ibuprofen to reduce the inflamation (redness). That will help."

alliegator replied: "Honestly I don't know. My son is allergic too. But I can tell you how to prevent mosquito's from biting you. This may sound strange, but it works. Take Vitamin B. It produces a smell in your skin that the mosquito's don't like. You won't be aware of it. Don't worry it doesn't make you stink. But you will have less bites."

Zoombuck 46 replied: "rub your arms with some Methylated Spirits stings a little but works a treat"

medhelp replied: "Tea Tree oil will stop them from itching and usually reduce them to nothing within 24 hours."

denny26355 replied: "MISERY !!!!! I get bitten a lot and am allergic to antihistamine - I use a product called AFTER BITE and keep it with me all the time during the summer months - it works brilliantly. It comes in a pen like applicator which contains a 3.5% w/v ammonia solution. After 3 or 4 applications the bite goes down and stops itching. Available from most chemists / pharmacies and some big supermarkets stock it on their healthcare shelves (Asda/Tesco). Have included link to the manufacturers web-site. Good Luck !!!!"

Pitt Bull replied: "Fill a Zip-lock bag with ice and put it on your bites. Helps relieve pain, itchiness, & redness."

bles28 replied: "take something like priton it will help with the allergic reaction. And also use menthaloilatum, which helps take the itch and redness out"
